Link Popularity Study Guide Part 2
Think of it, if you get lots of traffic to your website and added a link on your website pointing to a different website, you will be diverting traffic away from your website. Did you know that linking your website with a banned website could in fact get your website banned also? A Link exchange is a great way to market your website in a very cost effective manner. You want to generate more hits to your website but need a good source.
First and foremost, a Reciprocal Link Campaign encourages webmasters to explore the various websites in their genre. By trading links between websites it is an incentive for each webmaster to keep the link up on the page. If one webmaster takes the link down the other webmaster will do the same and no one wins. Reciprocal linking is the exchange of links between two websites, one site places a link on its link exchange page and the other site does the same, both sites do this in the hopes of improving the traffic and ranking with the search engine. More and more webmasters use reciprocal links to increase their sites ranking, as more sites do reciprocal link exchanging the search engines are also changing their algorithms to keep up with webmasters.
All webmasters know that getting quality and relevant inbound links will increase page rank, traffic and visibility of the website. When the visitors arrive at your site you want to offer your visitors good quality content.
Link exchange is very helpful in building valuable business contacts and getting better rank with search engines. But, while no one usually goes to someone’s link page looking for a site to visit, search engines will pick up on your keywords and sometimes rank that page with your link on it high in the search engines. As search engines change their algorithms they are ranking sites that have links placed in content that are both similar to each other.
To continue building links without swapping them: offer original, unique content in exchange for a one-way link. When searching for link partners, start by searching for your keywords in Google and choose 10 to 20 sites that have content that is related to or can compliment your site. One of the best ways of linking is to make sure that the links are placed on pages with original content and content that is related to the link. Make sure that the page is not a duplicate of other content on the interent.
Link exchange is one of the earliest and most popular SEO techniques among smaller websites to get inbound links. Many reports have come in that link exchanges are becoming an obsolete way to get higher search engine rankings, this is not true. Many webmasters have moved to find ways to build one-way inbound links instead of link exchanging.
Here are some techniques to build links to your site.
1. Post links a free directory exchanges
2. Trade links with other site by using reciprocal link exchange programs
3. Post comments to guest books and include your link
4. Write articles and distribute your articles to many article sites
5. Start an affiliate program and have other webmaster link back to you
By using all these techniques you will be able to build links to your site and increase the page rank to build traffic.

Search.com--The Best Kept Secret On The Internet
Search.com--The Best Kept Secret On The Internetby Dean PhillipsAnyone may use this article free of charge, provided the article isnot altered and the resource box remains intact.A Dean Phillips fan (her words, not mine) wrote me an e-mail asking,if I hate Google, DMOZ and Yahoo! so much, why don't I recommend analternative search engine? I had to laugh, because I've beenreceiving a lot of those types of e-mails lately. However, to set the record straight, I don't hate Google, DMOZ andYahoo!. I really don't. Hate is such a ridiculous waste of energy. Ido have problems with the way they conduct business--but hate them,no. My articles are merely an expression of my right to free speech. The same right we all have. It's just that I'm an extremelypassionate person with an aggressive personality, and that comesthrough loud and clear in my writing.Anyway, I thought about what my "fan" said in her e-mail, anddecided, why not suggest an alternative search engine? Search.com ismy choice. As search engines go, Search.com has to be the best kept secret onthe Internet. I discovered them about two years ago, and I've beenusing them ever since.Search.com is a metasearch search engine. So, what's a metasearchsearch engine? Glad you asked. Let me explain. Most search enginessimply compile results from a single database of web sites. Ametasearch search engine actually compiles search results from avariety of sources. When you enter a query at Search.com, youactually submit your query to the top search engines on theInternet, and then merge the results eliminating any duplicates.Search.com is owned by CNET Networks, Inc. CNET, www.cnet.com is thetrusted source of information for millions of technology consumersaround the world. Winner of countless awards, CNET provides expertand unbiased advice on technology products, and services to informusers and expedite purchasing.Integrating an extensive directory of more than 200,000 computer, technology, and consumer electronics products with editorialcontent, downloads, trends, reviews and price comparisons, CNETgives users the most up-to-date and efficient shopping resources onthe Web. CNET is also comprised of News.com, CNET.com, CNETDownload.com, CNET Reviews, CNET Shopper.com, GameSpot.com, MP3.com,mySimon.com, Search.com, TechRepublic.com, Webshots.com, ZDNet.com,and International Sites.Whew! Did I just sound like a commercial for these guys or what?Anyway, let me explain why I like Search.com so much. Being ametasearch search engine, it literally gives you the best of allworlds. It searches Google, Ask Jeeves, Business.com, Kanoodle,LookSmart, MSN, Open Directory, plus dozens of other leading searchengines. However, it's important to point out that they apply their owntechnology to these results to ensure that you get the absolute bestresults possible as fast as possible. Search.com also has someuseful and fun features.A feature I particularly like is you can actually preview web sitesbefore you click on them, with their thumbnail option, byselecting "show thumbnails" or "hide thumbnails" on the searchresults page.Another fun feature is you can personalize Search.com, by selectingone of five color schemes using the toolbar on the front page. You can also narrow and fine-tune your search, by clicking on thetabs located above the search box. This will limit your search toDownloads, Shopping, Games, or "More" where you can research bytopic.Search.com also has customizable category searches where you canpersonally select the sources they search by using theircustomization feature accessible by clicking "advanced" under thesearch box or any link on the research by topic page. Now, all of these things notwithstanding, I have to warn you, thereis nothing aesthetically pleasing about Search.com. It's a verybasic, plain looking search engine. However, if you can get past the cosmetics issue, I think you'llfind Search.com delivers some big time results!Dean Phillips is an Internet marketing expert, writer, publisher and entrepreneur.
